RAT TRAPS AT FOXHOLE

Members may see humane rat traps around the pond at Foxhole.  There have been a few comments from members who have seen rats whilst fishing there.  Please leave the traps alone, and don’t leave food or unused bait on the banks - please take it home.

LASER PENS

The use of laser pens is an important issue which will discussed at the next AGM.

Following the recent publicity regarding laser pens used for scaring wildlife, the Committee have unanimously agreed that they are banned from all our waters. The practise of using them on protected wildlife is illegal. Anyone found using one will have their membership card taken away.

PIKE MATCHES

Pike competitions (one at Island Pond and one at Roosthole) are fast approaching and they are likely to be popular.

The dates are: 5th January at Island Pond, 16th February at Roosthole, times to be agreed.

H&DAA are finalising the rules at the moment but the tackle requirements will be as found in the Rule Book. All H&DAA matches require a match fee and the pike matches will be a £5 entry fee per match. If enough people enter then a cash prizes may well be up for grabs but we will decide that nearer the time.

If you are new to pike fishing or have never done it due to being scared/afraid but want to learn how to etc then this is also for you! We can use the match as a way to teach you handling and unhooking (assuming some get caught!)

FEW MEMBERSHIPS REMAINING

H&DAA memberships for this season (up to 31st May 2013) have been selling extremely well and we now have less than 10 remaining.

Therefore, if you haven’t joined yet or are considering waiting until December to buy a half price membership, it is highly likely there will be none left.

To avoid disappointment, join now.  When they’re gone, they’re gone!

WEED SPRAYING AT SUN OAK

As Sun Oak is an SSSI site, Natural England, formerly known as English Nature, require the spraying of an invasive weed called Crassula, which is encroaching on the pond, until it is destroyed.

We have been asked to shut the pond, for this to be done, and await confirmation as to when it can be re-opened.

Please could any member making a decent catch of bream from Roosthole report the catch to Les Eggleton, the Fishery Officer, as we are monitoring the bream in partnership with the Environment Agency, for quality and numbers, etc.

ROOSTHOLE CLOSED UNTIL 1ST JUNE 2012

Due to the vast amount of work that has had to be carried out at Roosthole Pond during the proposed period of closure, and the fact that extremely little voluntary help was received from the general member on the work party dates, the lake has had to stay closed for an additional period of time to ensure work can be completed for the start of the new season.

FREE SPOUSE MEMBERSHIP FOR 2012-13 SEASON

Following the AGM held on 19th April 2012 the current rule 14 (Member’s wives/fiancées who do not apply for full Membership may fish the Association’s private waters when accompanied by their husbands/fiancées free) will be replaced for the 2012-13 season by the following:

The husband or wife of a Senior Member may fish for free in an adjacent swim using only one rod when accompanying the Member, as long as they hold a membership card and valid EA rod licence.

This will only apply for the 2012-13 season, until we can determine that this rule satisfies our insurance policy with regard to current equality legislation.  The committee will be investigating this matter further.

The husband or wife who is fishing for free can ONLY do so when they are with their spouse who holds the full Senior membership.  They cannot fish alone or when accompanying a Junior or Minor alone.  In the case of accompanying a Junior or Minor, the spouses membership card is equivalent to a non-fishing membership.

Please email details of your catch to the fisheries officer, Les Eggleton, or call him on 01403-269879 or 01293-852637.

KHV PRECAUTION AT ROOSTHOLE

We have been informed by the Environment Agency that Whitevane Pond has an outbreak of Koi Herpes Virus, which can wipe out carp stock from a pond.  Whilst Roosthole Pond is free of the virus, the lakes share the same watercourse, which flows from Whitevane into Roosthole.  This shouldn’t affect our fish, but we urgently require all members fishing at all of our waters, particularly Roosthole, to ensure that nets, unhooking mats, weight slings, etc, are THOROUGHLY DRY before bringing them onto the water.  This is the most effective way of killing the virus and preventing the spread of the disease.

BLACK BOTTOM POND - PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY

A member of the public has rung the Fishery Officer to complain that he and his wife received extreme verbal abuse from an angler, as they walked their dogs around Black Bottom Pond recently.

Please be aware that there is a public right of way around the pond, and that we often rely on the dog walkers to tell us about fish theft and incidents that we may otherwise be unaware of.

There is a possibility that the person fishing may not have been a member, but if he was he refused to give his name to the walker.

Can all anglers please take note that this must not happen again, even if the dogs jump in the water.

BIRCHENBRIDGE POND DREDGING

Following the recent dredging at Birchenbridge Pond, members should  be aware that the bank will not have consolidated yet and will be slippery and messy for quite a while.  Click here to see details of the dredging.

ISLAND POND ACCESS DRIVE

The access drive, running from the gate on the A264 right up to the lake, has been resurfaced at significant cost to H&DAA.  We would ask all members to drive slowly on the new surface to ensure it lasts a long time.
